Jewellery Through the History
There are fascinating facts about jewellery through the ages. The first jewellery was made out of bones and animal teeth during the Stone Age. Jewellery made of gold, copper and silver came in the period of the ancient civilizations of the Aztecs, Egyptians and Romans. Later on, metal jewellery was embellished by various Gemstones such as, amethyst, turquoise, malachite and lapis lazuli.

Throughout the different periods of history covering all the cultures of the world, jewellery has been seen as a code of wealth, status, superstition and religious beliefs. From the ancient era both men and women have worn jewellery to protect against harm and evil and because of the healing properties of the various gemstones and birthstones. In fact, jewellery has been used to embellish nearly every part of the human body and has been made out of almost every material known to mankind.

In the renaissance period, garments were ornamented with gemstones. During the Georgian and the Victorian era, cameos and lockets came in style and though platinum metal was used about 3000 years ago too, it gained popularity in the 1900s. In the nineteen twenties, from Paris came Art Deco, a popular international design movement within which jewellery was made using abstract geometric designs. These designs were similar to those of the ancient Aztecs and Egyptians but were combined with modern art.

At present, we are in the era of Designer Jewellery. Today’s contemporary consumers are influenced by Hollywood and television and are looking for exclusive, modern & sophisticated designs to add to their personal collection. Today’s jewellery is made out of gold, silver, platinum & metal and is designed with various gems & stones!
